This is a very rare car indeed. It is fully documented that this car was allocated factory ‘works car’ status in build and used for press duties from new when it was allocated the revered HP number sequence which adorned many of the works cars. 46HP is in itself a very valuable registration but will not be split from the car under any circumstances.
One of the last 3A’s built this original UK right hand drive car has a fully documented history from new and with the last owner having the car for over 10years. The original build sheet, bough and green log book accompany a significant history file. The car is a genuine matching numbers car with the original engine gearbox and body confirmed as correct.
The car went straight from the factory to Monza in the hands of the Asst Editor of Motorsport. The Italian Grand Prix, Maserati, Abarth and Lancia factories all visited during this trip. The photo is from that trip and subsequent article in October 1960 issue of that magazine.
We have recently completed the restoration of this historic car. The bodywork has been stripped, repaired as necessary, and repainted. The interior has been retrimmed, and the suspension has been rebuilt with polyurethane bushes and new springs. The steering box has been refurbished.
The engine has been stripped and completely rebuilt with running in miles only. The very best internal pieces where used and TRGB completed this work for us. There is a 12month warranty on the power unit. To make the most of the balanced, flowed, uprated engine we fitted twin DCOE45 Weber carburettors with fuel fed through Facet fuel pump and exhaust through a heat wrapped free flowing exhaust. The engine performs superbly with a really punchy 125-130bhp across a broad rev range. To deal with the increased power we have uprated the gearbox and overdrive to make a perfect fast road car. Reliability upgrades include electronic ignition and Revotec cooling fan. Handling the power might have been an issue but we have fitted polybush suspension and this has completed a really super package.
46HP is now a simply superb sidescreen TR. The perfect blend of history and upgrades to make an ideal fast road car that could easily compete in historic rallies etc.
