Lancia Flavia 2000 - original RHD
In 1972 the Pininfarina styled Flavia sat at the top as the most expensive car in the Lancia range. This is a real driver's car with understated Italian design and flair coupled with 30% more power than previous 1800 model.
A period road test by Stirling Moss writing for car test magazine states:
'The keynote of a car like the Flavia is that...it simply begs to be driven hard and promises to respond properly.'
An Autocar magazine test of the original Flavia Coupe states:
'The Lancia Flavia coupe is a car for the connoisseur... The Pininfarina styling...is elegant from any angle, and the standards of construction and finish live up to the looks, even under the closest scrutiny. There are many cars for the individualist, but few like the Flavia that immediately class him as a knowledgeable enthusiast who appreciates the finer points of motoring enough to invest in a thoroughbred of engineering.'
High praise indeed and it still shows when driving the car today
Unfortunately as well as being famed for their engineering and design flair 70's Lancias also gained a reputation for rust. What makes this particular car stand out is it is a rust free example that has not had much welding repairs during its life. This car has clearly never got to the stage of being very rusty.
This car has been restored and presents as a nice example of this rare Italian sports 2+2 coupe.
The car is all to original specification throughout.
The interior is all original and in excellent condition retaining the stylish seats and elegant wood rimmed steering wheel.
There is no structural rust throughout and the underside has been thoroughly undersealed.
The panel gaps and door shuts are all good with no door sag.
The car drives well, feels solid with no squeaks or rattles and the sound from the flat four boxer engine is sporty and brimming with character.
The paintwork is generally good and polishes up well but with some marks here and there.
Any inspection, viewing on a ramp is welcome.
Recent MOT with no advisories.
The car also comes with some original period Lancia brochures and a hardback book of Autocar tests highlighting what a special car this was in its day and indeed remains so today.
To summarise this car is not a concours car and is priced accordingly. What it is is an unusually solid example in very presentable and original condition that can either be used as is or improved and detailed to the next level with a little work to make it an exceptional example. Either way it's a very rare, stylish and usable car indeed and not to be missed.
