We have had the pleasure of marketing some pretty amazing cars over the nearly 20years we have been buying cars we like and selling them to people we like. This DB6 Volante has to be right up there with the most desirable and exclusive cars we have handled. I remember King Charles driving his and Peter Sellers and Mick Jagger. Back in the mid 60’s you had to be a person of standing and wealth to own one of the 140 DB6 mk1 Volante cars made.
The DB6 was to be the last iteration of the Carrozzeria Touring designed Superleggera construction featuring the Tadek Marek 6 cylinder twin camshaft engine that powered the DB4 into the 5 and finally the 6. Under the stewardship of John Wyer the Harold Beach chassis was to accommodate the stunning visual appearance of the iconic DB range that proved unavoidable temptation to the worlds rich and famous. The DB5 and its James Bond patronage elevated Aston Martin into the dizzy heights in our affection it still maintains today. I’d go as far as to say if you are fortunate enough to have the financial where with all to own a car such as this then I wouldn’t hesitate for a second. Reach for your cheque book and make the wise investment in one of only 140 DB6 series 1 Volante cars.
Chassis 3638/R was registered JVF997E on the 1st of May 1967. Presented in Dubonnet Rosso with a 5 speed manual gearbox and power steering and hood. I am researching the history from new but the file presented with the car picks up the history thread from 1974. Significantly and in detail is the time under the custodianship of Derek Gold with a Bill of Sale on file marking his custodianship from 1978 until 2007. In the history he explains the car was advertised in Motorsport in July 1978 and taking with him his trusty mechanic he made the purchase and proceeded to document in a very detailed manner his life with the car. Suffice to say the car has led a cosseted and colourful life with a colour change to Fiesta Red prior to the present very attractive Gunmetal Grey. The most recent owner has owned the car since 2007 and has continued the documented careful maintenance of this most prestigious and desirable car.
The car is new to me and I am working my way through its uniqueness peculiar to every single classic car. First impressions are of a car that has led a well cared for life where keeping the car in tip top condition was an imperative. As such it presents beautifully in Gunmetal Grey with a classy and very stylish dark green interior. The electric hood works perfectly and when the hood is in place the car is surprisingly quite with little wind noise. Of course with the top down the car is truly spectacular and attracts admiring glances wherever it goes. The engine has been refreshed with detail on file and pulls smoothly with plenty of power to propel the car rapidly from standstill to way past the legal limit in the UK. The gearbox is 5 speed and snicks beautifully from gear to gear. Steering is power assisted and gives ample driver engagement when spiriting along the highways of the UK but the added please of being able to park up with ease.
Gunmetal Grey paintwork, black mohair hood, chrome wire wheels are arguably the classiest combination for any British classic car. On this DB6 Volante they blend to the point of sensation.
The history file is vast. I will certainly be digging around for more history. But we couldn’t wait to get the car onto the website with some basic photos and narrative with more professional photos and video to follow in the coming weeks.
The chance to own a DB6 Volante is a rare opportunity. This car is a beauty and if you are considering such a car then this is most certainly worthy of consideration
