Here we have a special XK120ots from 1953 first registered in Sheffield and retaining its original RWB564 registration. Original chassis and engine block all packaged in a fully restored car upgraded and ready to go.

This XK was fully restored in 2006 and this is documented in the history file which is indeed a very interesting read. At this time the colour was changed from black to a very rich and classy Old English White which is more at the cream end of the many interpretations of OEW. Colour changed but retaining its biscuit and red trim configuration which looks quite splendid. Sitting on chrome wire wheels shod with what most experts agree are the quite excellent Vredestein Sprint tyres is also a big tick in the ‘well done’ box for the most recent custodian who has indeed cherished this car since taking delivery into his delightful collection back in 2021. Now moving house the collection is downsizing.

Under his engineering eye he set about making a highly useable and reliable fast road car and he has achieved that objective delightfully. Rebuilt engine getting more power with induction through twin 2” SU’s mated to a 5 speed gearbox give very fast high speed cruising with 90mph and 3000rpm as an example should you be on a road with that speed option! Goes quick and stops quick with uprated Realm brakes. Keeps its cool too with uprated radiator and Revotec cooling fan mated to an aluminium header tank. 123 Ignition, new shock absorber etc. You get the picture I am sure. New fuel tank soft top, tonneau, period suitcase full of spares. RWB564 is a far more capable XK120 now than it was in the 1950’s. Fit for todays modern motoring and capable of grand touring anywhere in comfort and style.

Crucially, if you are a modern man you might be slightly bigger than your relative from the 1950’s. Most of us are! Good news because the drivers seat has been sculptured to accommodate a bigger man. 6’2” and 17stone Me fits in nicely. Anybody bigger might not be the ideal buyer for this car. If you are smaller. Then you are smiling.

When you invest hundreds of hours and many thousands of pounds it sometimes makes one reluctant to release the car into the elements of the UK. This car has not seen a drop of water from the sky since being purchased in 2021. As such there isn’t one spot of corrosion or weather related deterioration to worry the prospective buyer. It is spotless underneath.

One the road it’s a lusty free revving ‘fire’ breathing leaping cat. The exhaust note is extraordinary and will upset pets with a sensitive hearing. Do not go in a quiet zone in this car.. Do get up at 5am on a Sunday morning. Warm the 120 up and bury the throttle on a sweeping early morning blast before anybody else is up and you will return for your morning Cornflakes with a very large grin on your face and be set up for the day. Do, plan that trip to Le Mans Classic and take on the French Police barrelling down the Route Nationale in this stunning car which is more than capable of engaging you naughty side or your easy living free flowing happy go lucky side.

RWB564 might be 70 years old but she will still give you thrills a plenty and when the modern cars of today have bored you to tears this most willing XK will still be there asking for more.

Do we get the picture curious younger 40 year old reader considering a Ford or Audi??????? Don’t do it. It’s just a Ford. XK lovers you already know what I have said here is the reality of owning a great XK
