Description
Here we have our XK150fhc, a UK RHD car with the original restored chassis mated to an uprated 3.8 litre engine fed through a pair of 2” HD8 carburretors with 240bhp driven to the rear wheels via the correct 4 speed overdrive gearbox. A series of facts that do not really tell the story of this highly individual and superb driving car.
We first had this car on our sales roster back in 2015 for in excess of £100k. At the time the car was featured in Classic Cars magazine as a concours highly polished and accomplished individual restoration performed under the careful eye of the then owner who from memory was a jeweller from Birmingham’s jewellery quarter who also owned a bakery business too. He liked koi carp too I seem to remember and had a huge pond full of very expensive fish and chips to my eye! It would be boring if we all liked the same thing wouldn’t it? This was the way he saw life and he set about restoring this UK RHD car to his eye of the perfect 1950’s grand touring XK. The car was a body off chassis ‘no expense spared’ rebuild in the early 2010’s and finished in circa 2012. His perfect car has cosmetically a louvered bonnet and strap chromed rear wing beading together with a chrome luggage rack and twin fuel filler. Internally it has a full mahogany interior with matching steering wheel and many other details that make the car unique and befitting a Rolls Royce more than a Jaguar. Personally I struggle with the rear wing beading and can therefore state that this can be reversed back to correct black if so desired. The remainder of the car is individual but very tastefully done to elevate the Jaguar to Rolls Royce quality and datail
Additionally the car has Vicarage power steering uprated brakes, cooling and exhaust to compliment that fruity and very responsive 3.8litre engine. The car is a fine car to drive and will be a great car for any event sitting on a £3000 set Turino wire wheels.
That restoration cost in excess of £100k I remember and yet the car has only done circa 2000 mile since. The car passed into the most recent ownership in 2020 for the princely sum of £80k and the owner has spent a further several thousand on upkeep with limited use. The number 15OX has been removed and the car has a new number 169XWF that really should be the correct original number for the car throughout its life EEO623. All the history on file relates to that first number until changed for 15OX. So with limited effort EEO623 should come back to the car.
Today the car remains a structurally excellent with a few blemishes of time and use to the gloss black paint. The interior remains outstanding as is the engine bay. On the road she is a fine car to drive and really cries out for somebody to use the car regularly. The 2 most recent owners never had the chance to do that and the seller today and owner of 5 years really would appreciate a new custodian with the stated intention of enjoying the car on the road as it was built to be. For sure she is a fine thing to look at but an even better car to be driving and enjoying.
Priced very sensibly to reflect the market today at £59995 and supplied with a good history file this fine XK is ready to go and be enjoyed.
