Description

We love the XK Jaguar and anybody who follows the collector car world closely would know that. Occasionally there comes an XK that raises its ‘head’ above the other fantastic XK range and this is such a car. We love this car

The XK150 open top sports roadster was a rare sight in the UK in right hand drive and even rarer in the ‘S’ variant. Here we have one of only 44 ‘S’ cars that back in 1959 was the ultimate sportscar evolution of the 12 year XK production that was soon end and be replaced by the E Type. The fixed head and drop head where very much grand touring cars. The OTS roadster was sleek and stylish with a stunning appearance not compromised by an elaborate drop head sitting on the rear deck of the car. Instead the soft top stowed away under the rear deck and the resultant silhouette was simply stunning. Just look and admire the side views of the 150 roadster.

Back in 1959 this car would not only look sleek and stylish but in ‘S’ form the car delivered a significant power upgrade with 245bhp being delivered to the rear wheels via the trusty 4 speed overdrive gearbox. The XK engine that supplied the power to all Jaguars of this decade was to power the E Type too and the 150S had the induction of fuel via 3x 2” SU carburettors that went on to fuel the E Type into the sensation it was and remains.

The 150S roadster was a supercar of it’s time and of course this was a time when Jaguar’s racing exploits marketed the road cars with outstanding success on the track. This car maybe nearly 66 years old but do not underestimate the performance capability of the 150S roadster today. She will easily spirit you past any legal speed limit and reach that limit very rapidly too. When you want to cruise just flick the overdrive switch and the car would sit at 100mph on any autobahn. These cars were and are fabulous things and this one is exceptional.

Despatched to Henly’s London on the 27th January 1959 and registered JFB790 in OEW with red trim and a fawn hood. Today the car retains that colour scheme with the exception of the hood which is black. The chassis, engine and body numbers all match those on the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate on file. The history file is a good one and has photos of the car being used for competition work prior to being exported to the USA from where it returned in 2019 to receive a rotisserie nut and bolt restoration well documented in photos in the history file. The photos show an immaculate body restoration with pin sharp panel fit and shut lines. The file documents the original right hand drive car returning from the USA with payment of required NOVA taxes and also documents the car being re-registered with the DVLA in November of 2021. The car has sat in a significant Jaguar collection to this point only having driven some 180 miles. Essentially it is an as new car still running in.

I will continue to tinker with the car making it its best self. The new owner will be the grateful recipient of a high performance concours potential sportscar that one couldn’t remotely build again for without adding another £75k to this asking price. The collector car market may see the Jaguar XK out of fashion for now BUT a shrewd collector enthusiast will surely see that a great car is always a great car and sooner rather than later the XK and this magnificent machine will once again see favour amongst the sportscar drivers of the collector car world. A wise investment is my hunch

The car is supplied with all Heritage certificate documented photo restoration and associated invoices to complete the opportunity to own a Jaguar icon.
